Copenhagen climate summit points to likely big change in cars

E-mail Print PDF
Just as the United Nations climate summit got under way in Denmark this week, the United States took a dramatic step toward reducing global-warming emissions--whether or not the summit brings an agreement. In a long-anticipated move, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) declared carbon dioxide, a global-warming gas, is a pollutant. Given that CO2 emissions is directly proportional to fuel consumption, the door is opened for the agency to regulate CO2, which could result in dramatically more fuel-efficient cars and trucks.

Kia K9 super sedan sneak peeked in Seoul

When the Volkswagen Phaeton launched here in the States, nobody liked it. Well, that's not true. Every journalist we know who drove the mighty VW went on and on about how it's probably actually the greatest car in the world (especially all decked out with a W12 engine) and how the HVAC system is a full generation ahead of the competition (you can't beat in-car radiators!) and how the seats so awesomely massaged their fat butts. That said, it was still a terrible car in terms of branding, marketing, etc. And now we have no Phaeton.

Dacia shows off new production Duster 4x4

Dacia Duster - click above for high-res image gallery

You know what the problem with OOYYO is? Not enough Romanian cars! To rectify this hateful situation, we present to you the all-new Dacia Duster, a compact SUV that "rewrites the 4x4 rulebook." What that means is that in Europe, most SUVs are in fact soft roaders. Totally useless in the rough stuff despite their fancy all-wheel drive systems and too expensive for the majority of the people to purchase. The Duster, on the other hand, is going to cost little (hey, it's a Dacia!) yet be quite capable when the going gets rocky, muddy and/or roadless.

Beware This High Tech Method for Stealing Used Car Funds

E-mail Print PDF

Here's an interesting AP story out of Oregon: A parking meter officer in Oregon City is facing aggravated theft and computer crime charges after used vehicle advertisements on the Internet turned out to be phony.

Seems like the man is accused of selling the same truck four times in the same day based on wire transfers into his account. A bank investigator became suspicious of the wire transfers because they were just under the $10,000 reporting level for transfers. In other words, the investigator thought he had stumbled upon the illegal movement of funds when in fact he might have discovered a high-tech auto thief.

OOYYO's comment: Don't trust just anyone, especially when you use wire money transfers.
